Believe it or not, all piano teachers are not the same! Unfortunately, the vast majority are. Many study the same repertoire in school and then just "pass it along". Furthermore, even though there are many different books for music instruction, most of those are designed with the same cookie-cutter format as well. Consequently, most people who have studied piano using these traditional methods and materials end up being frustrated with their progress.
Shaun Manley has developed a unique method of teaching piano using a mix of traditional and contemporary methods. This method encompasses traditional methods to ensure a sound foundation of theory and note reading skills but goes beyond that by teaching skills that are often only realized by studying with a professional musician.
Now you have the opportunity to study piano with a teacher who is also an experienced professional musician. If you are new to piano, learn from an instructor that makes the experience fun and rewarding. If you have been taking lessons for some time now and have hit a plateau, why not consider instruction from a teacher who can help you to the next level with some professional guidance?

Students who create their own music are more likely to continue playing when lessons are no longer an option. Music Composition lessons are aimed at developing the composer's knowledge of music theory and how it relates to the organization of music. Starting with the fundamentals, music composition lessons teach concepts of unity, variety, and the aesthetics of musical form. While formal training in music isn't required to begin studying Music Composition, a commitment to the art and knowledge of basic musical concepts is highly encouraged.
Students learn how to write for a variety of ensembles through the Arranging music composition course. Arranging starts with the solo instruments and works up to large ensembles. Adequate progress for a composer requires that the student complete approximately two completed works per year and stays active in the current music theory course. One of the works should be performed publicly by a local group or by the composer. Performances can be in the form of a recording or community event.
Students learn how to write and record songs through the Song Writing music composition course. Song Writing can begin with lyrics, a melody, a lick, or a chord progression. Once the idea is established, high end recording software (Sonar X1, Reason 6, Stylus RMX) and hardware are used to build on that idea as they would in Hollywood Recording Studios. Shaun Manley has been in several successful bands that have written songs and recorded with major Hollywood producers, so he is very familiar with what makes good songs and how they are constructed. It is highly recommended that students wishing to enroll in this course have an understanding of how to play basic chords on the piano, the guitar, or both.
